Like that Old Time Rock and Roll

We found each other having a moment in the evening that belonged to us.
The kids had been summoned to their beds and the HBO queue played an episode of Girls. At one point Oasis’ Wonderwall played in the soundtrack and my bride and I reminisced about the Cornell death and all the young talent recently passed on. Just about the point when the song sound swelled loudest my oldest manifested from the shadows. Our loud rock and/or roll music was keeping him up and he did not much appreciate it.
Once scolded we turn the music down and apologized. Soon after he hit the hay we realized we were the adults in the house.

Date Nite

Dating ain’t easy! You want her to have fun. You tell your best jokes. Ya watch your drinks so as not to make a fool of yourself. Oh darn I hope the outfit I chose doesn’t let my belly show too much! No lie but you are checking her out but trying to be sly about it! That top she’s wearing is something else though!
Then you get her back at your place. Well her place. Actually our place…the kids hug you both and you’re back to the “everyday”.
But you both know the date was fun and if your lucky the little people will go to bed early and then……….

To My Wife Before Valentine’s Day

I remember the first time I saw you walking into that college history class.

Looked forward to our first real date on the beach.
Our first kiss redefined what I would ever want in a pair of lips.
Volts of electricity shot up my back when you first said those “three” words.
Elated when you said yes and agreed to be my wife.

Yelled it from the rooftops each time you told me we’d have our babies.
Only think of our family when the challenges of life manifest.
Unwavering in my belief that there is so much good to come for us.

I LOVE YOU!
