Lost Connection

At about 18.6 miles past the teeny-tiny town of Springville, CA I lost cellular connection and was cut off from the world (electronically) for four days. My heart didn’t sink but my grey-matter registered the moment. Into the Redwoods we went.
On Monday the 29th of May at about 16.4 miles from good ole Sprinville my phone came back to life and with it a myriad of familiar pings, dings and screeches. My grey-matter registered the moment and my heart sunk quite a lot.

State of the State

Drove circa 800 miles north to go on holiday and visit some of our best friends. Along the way we saw dozens of license plates from nearby & far away states. I know this because the kids diligently took track of it all, including two New Yorkers. Most of the drive included some form of rain but on occasion it was light enough that we could look outside and what we saw was grand and a switch to what we witnessed in horror on our last drive up.
With all that said I can pronounce folks that the State of the State IS green. The way I remember it and how it should be.

Kings Country

Awe when reached is a humbling experience. It may serve as a reminder of our relative size among all things, the briefness of our time on earth or the elemental connection we have with all about us. Now imagine sharing a long string of experiences like this with a core group of great friends over the years. Seeing world wonders time after time in our own California back yard. Instilling onto our children the sense of awe that the desert, ocean or forest imposes.
That’s what this weekend was about.
It was precious and it was awesome.
